The neighbourhood

Gigiri is a lively diplomatic, business and shopping district with plenty to offer in terms of restaurants, shops, services and entertainment, all set in leafy surroundings.

The selection of malls in the neighbourhood have something for everyone, their hotels, food courts, art galleries, cinema, bowling alley and wide array of shops. Every Friday, a popular market where you can find an abundance of Kenyan and other African crafts and curios takes place at one of the malls.

The renowned Karura Forest is right next to the UNON compound. It is a unique public facility teeming with local wildlife such as red duikers, bushbucks, squirrels, white-tailed mongoose, Sykes monkeys and Colobus monkeys, as well as colourful butterflies and bird species such as crowned cranes, Egyptian geese, crested eagles, green pigeons and hoopoes. The well-demarcated nature trails, jogging lanes and cycling paths make the forest a perfect recreation spot.

For health and safety outside the UNON complex, there are two health facilities nearby, just a few minutes’ walk or drive from UNON, and the Diplomatic Police Unit – Kenya Police is stationed close by.
