A place for global dialogue

At the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) – the only United Nations headquarter duty station in the global South – Governments, organizations and experts come together to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Meetings and conferences held at UNON join a long tradition of effective multilateral engagement, grounded in the United Nations values of neutrality, respect, dialogue and international cooperation. They also take place in one of the world’s most distinctive diplomatic settings.

Why choose Nairobi as your meeting destination?

Nairobi offers a strong diplomatic presence, international connectivity, value for money and a distinctive experience for delegates. With more than 90 embassies and high commissions, a wide range of United Nations entities and international non-governmental organizations, as well as direct flights to and from destinations in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, Nairobi is an established centre for international diplomacy and cooperation. Hosting your meeting at UNON places you within an existing ecosystem of multilateral expertise and international engagement.

Located near the equator and at high altitude, Nairobi has a temperate, pleasant climate for much of the year. The city also offers competitive daily subsistence allowances, hotel rates and staff costs compared with the other United Nations headquarter duty station host cities of Geneva, New York and Vienna.

Beyond the meeting room: field visits and more

As East Africa's commercial, technology and innovation hub, Nairobi is well connected to the region. Delegates can link meeting discussions to work on the ground through technical visits and field missions across Africa.

In addition, the location provides numerous opportunities for a work retreat or post-conference leisure time with Kenya’s world-famous wildlife and safari destinations, pristine beaches, cultural attractions and award-winning hospitality.

No country can solve today's challenges alone. Dialogue, diplomacy and multilateral solutions provide the surest path to a peaceful and just world.
ANTÓNIO GUTERRES, Secretary-General of the United Nations

What is multilateralism, and why does it matter?

Multilateralism is when countries work together to address shared challenges and find lasting solutions. Climate change, conflict, public health, environmental degradation and rapid urbanization are global problems that require countries, organizations and communities to collaborate and advance sustainable and just solutions.

UNON provides a secure, trusted and neutral space for international dialogue and cooperation. Our experienced teams provide expertise and practical support to enable governments, organizations and experts to work together on some of the defining issues of our time.

The United Nations is at the heart of the modern multilateral system, serving as a global forum for countries to address shared challenges and find common solutions. Find out more about multilateralism.

Global challenges need global solutions

As the largest United Nations campus in the world, one of three regional Secretariat headquarters and the only one in the Global South, UNON brings diverse voices together. Every meeting creates an opportunity for dialogue, cooperation and progress towards a better future.
